The Baltimore Ravens are working hard to grow and make themselves better. They proved it by signing some key free agents over the last couple of weeks. Last week, the team signed NT Ma’ake Kemoeatu. The former Raven did not play last season but lost 70 pounds going from 400+ pounds to prove to the Ravens staff that he still has the desire and ability to play.
On Monday, the Ravens signed suspended NT Ryan McBean. McBean spent the last three seasons with the Denver Broncos and is coming off a career season that included 19 tackles and four sacks. McBean sued the NFL after he received a six-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. The suspension was later reduced to three-games in exchange for dismissing the lawsuit. McBean isn’t a major signing. But, he will certainly provide depth to the defensive line behind Terrance Cody and Haloti Ngata.
Today, the team signed free agent WR/KR Jacoby Jones. Jones was released earlier this month by the Houston Texans. Ravens fans are glad to get a potential kick/punt returner in Jacoby Jones. But, we have few words for him: “Hold on to the ball.” Jones fumbled the punt in the 2011 Divisional Round as a member of the Houston Texans. The fumble set up the touchdown that sealed the Ravens 20-13 win.
The signings don’t mean that any of these players will actually make the team but it will certainly make competition in training camp very interesting.
How do you feel about these moves?
