Quick Hit – The New York Jets Send Derrick Mason to The Houston Texans!!

It looks like former Baltimore Raven Derrick Mason has gotten the boot from the New York Jets! It was officially announced yesterday that Mason has been traded to the Houston Texans. This trade is based on a conditional draft pick for the Jets. Earlier this season Mason joined forces with Rex Ryan after being cut from the Ravens. While initially Mason said he was excited and happy with his decision to move, there soon was trouble in paradise. It was reported last week that Mason expressed his dislike of Jets offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, and his lack luster offense. While we all know Mason is a vocal player, there is only room for one loud mouth in the Jets organization and that is Rex Ryan. It seems that Mason’s comments and complaining is the reason for the boot. The Texans loss of wide receiver Andre Johnson due to a hamstring injury makes Mason a great addition for their team. On the other hand, this trade is not so great for Mason especially after all of his high praises of the Jets organization and Head Coach Rex Ryan. One thing can be said for sure, the pressure to perform for the second time in three weeks will be on Mason as the Ravens seek to shut down the Texans.  Also former Texan Vonte Leech looks to prevail over his former team!!! Expect for this match-up to be intense and full of excitement!! Let’s go Ravens!!

I believe that Derrick Mason deserves better than this.  He’s always been a hot head but it has always been in a good way.  He always gives 110% when he is on the field. You can’t ask for anything more.  He wasn’t cut from the Ravens because of performance.  So why did his performance go down now? I’m not going to blame Brian Schottenheimer for everything but he probably is a factor. (I’m not saying Schottenheimer is a bad coordinator either.) Playing the Ravens defense can make any offensive coordinator look bad. Add a starting center not playing and that equals a bad game against the Ravens. If the Jets offense doesn’t start doing well and Mason and the Texans start doing well…You get the idea!
