The NBA Conference Finals are underway and only four best teams in the league remain. The battle between the young Memphis Grizzles and veteran San Antonio Spurs got off to an intense start yesterday. While the Spurs dominated the Grizzles in game one, game two will not be an easy task as the Grizzles look get a much needed road win and tie the series.

The defending champion, Miami Heat will face the Indiana Pacers for the Eastern Conference Finals. Both teams are pretty familiar with each other and while the Heat have won their last few series match-ups against the Pacers this go around wont be easy. The Pacers are a young and aggressive team with a low post presence and strong scorers. While most teams are intimidated by the Heats big three this Pacers team is ready and anxious to take on the challenge. NBA fans can expect for this series to go the distance, as the both teams fight to be crowned best in the EAST.

The competition in the 2013 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs have gotten intense as the semi-finals of the eastern and western conferences have now started. The defending Stanley Cup champs, The Los Angeles Kings are looking to defend their title and repeat. The Kings currently have a 1-0 lead against the San Jose Sharks and look to snatch the series in less than seven games. The untimely death of Kings owner Dr. Jerry Buss earlier this year has given the team even more momentum and inspiration to bring the Cup back to L.A.

This is the first time in over 20 years the Kings have opened an NHL series and Thursday night game two goes down. After an impressive 2-0 victory over the Sharks in game one the Kings look to continue their dominance and end this series quick.

After 25 seasons this is Karl’s first time receiving the award. Karl now joins former Nuggets coach Doug Moe as the only coaches in Nuggets history to receive this honor. This year the Nuggets made an impressive stride, going 24-4 after the NBA All-Star break and earning the fourth best record (57-25) in the league. Despite being eliminated last week by the Golden State Warriors, the Nuggets made impressive strides this season without a “Big Name” roster. Karl received 62 first place votes from a panel of 121 sports writers and broadcasters from the U.S and Canada.

Congrats to Coach Karl on this much deserved award!

In a unanimous decision with all 3 judges agreeing to a score of 117-111, Mayweather demonstrated to the world why he is undefeated. Guerrero seemed to be the aggressor early on while Mayweather appeared to be feeling him out by using his defensive skills. By the end of round two, it was clear to me that Guerrero could not match Mayweather’s speed. Throughout the remaining rounds Mayweather used his jab well to set up several hard punches that landed square on Guerrero’s face. Guerrero attempted to pin Mayweather against the ropes but Mayweather was able to block most of the punches or hold Guerrero. In the end, the audience booed since they didn’t get the knockout most of them had hoped for. Mayweather complained about hurting his hand which looked swollen after his corner unwrapped him. He even demonstrated his new changed persona when he told his dad to chill out in response to Guerrero’s dad complaints of Mayweather running around the ring.

Ever since the Mike Tyson years, I have been adamant to watch the under-card fights because the main event could prove to be either a disappointment or just a plain joke. J’Leon Love won a split decision over Gabriel Rosado. I’m not sure what fight the 2 judges were watching. It was clear to me that Rosado had the upper hand. I told my dad early in the fight that Abner Mares would upset Daniel Ponce De Leon. Although it appeared that the referee called the fight a tad too soon, Mares had clearly rung Ponce De Leon’s bell one time too many. Mares had Ponce De Leon up against the ropes unleashing a series of punches Ponce De Leon seemed to be aware and responding with several punches of his own. Leo Santa Cruz got an early TKO against Alexander Munoz. This was definitely one of the best undercards I’d seen in awhile.

With such a good fight night, maybe we shouldn’t give boxing the standing eight count just yet.

Tonight millions of boxing fans will tune into the premier match-up of the year, as the undefeated Floyd Mayweather takes on Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero. Guerrero has just one defeat on his 33 bout record with 18 of his wins coming by way of knock-out. On the other hand, 36 year-old Floyd “Money” Mayweather is looking to keep his flawless record in tact. This year Mayweather reached a blockbuster deal with Showtime agreeing to a six fights within thirty months. Last year he became the highest paid athlete in the world and with his new deal expected to reach a whopping $200 million dollars, Floyd is likely to reach the top yet again.

Tonight’s the battle for the WBC Welterweight title goes down at 9pm at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Will Floyd Mayweather continue his impressive record and remain the Welterweight champ or will Guerrero snatch away the title?

He played power forward for Old Miss and helped them get to the NCAA Sweet 16 this season. If he makes the team, at 6’7″, he will be the only other player on the offense taller than Joe Flacco besides left tackle Byrant McKinnie who at 6’8″ is the tallest player on the team. At his height he is potentially a red zone night mare for other teams. He could also be good at blocking field goals. He might need to put on a little weight though as he is a little light for a tight end. He could also be flexed out too like they do Dennis Pitta and Ed Dickson. He could be a player that the Ravens try to develop…or he could just make a really incredible transition and be an asset to the team this year but let’s not get our hopes up just yet. Let’s see if he makes the team first.
